If you are a doctor, and you only see someone when they are sick, then all hellos would be sad, and the goodbyes shouls be happy.
for example, and doctor says hello to a patient he is treating for cancer, he is sad because the man has cancer. he says goodbye after the cancer is gone and he is happy that the man is better now.

Sometimes I have see people at Funerals--it is a Sad Hello.
And I have a friend moving further away I am happy for her move she has reason too and is looking forward to it--so it is a Happy Goodbye,

But I guess you would say it is a mixture of both feelings rather than a total--sad hello or happy goodbye.. It would be both in the instances above.

I will go with NO such thing only a mixture.

A sad hello is when you meet up with someone you know has a tragedy or heartache in their life, and a happy goodbye is when someone leaves that really wears on you. When it's the same person all at once, you have a sad hello and a happy goodbye, but you try not to show it because that would not be polite!

Hello can be very, very sad if it's your first hello after distances, & you see how they have diminished, & know in your heart that there wiill soon be a goodbye. But don't let them know you are sad....

A happy goodbye could be when you're delighted to have someone out of your life, that you wondered why they'd been there in the first place!

To say goodbye to someone you love (if you have the opportunity), because they are dying, or have died, is not "happy." It is more a sense of peace that they aren't suffering anymore.

I don't think the little "goodbyes" when seeing someone off on a journey you're sure they'll love, really counts in your question. Or--maybe it does...

I'd reckon a sad hello between friends of the deceased at a funeral - or meeting at a hospital to visit a declining friend. A happy goodbye could be to farewell an unwanted spouse or visitor - or to farewell someone you love as they depart on some grand adventure or next stage of life that will be good for them. So there are sad-happy versions of both, I reckon, too.

When I flew over to New Zealand to see my favourite relatives. It was a happy goodbye to my family here in Australia - because I knew that i would get to see them again! And so excited about going to see the rest of my family.

And then once I came back to Australia, it was a sad hello. I was really upset that I had to leave my relatives in NZ and wanted them to come with me.

I miss them so much :( I cried the whole 3 hours home on the plane.

Happy Goodbye, as far as I am concerned, don't exist. This is why I say Au revoir>>see you again.

A goodbye by definition is a gesture expressing "farewell," "hope you do well" etc and so, if you hate the person you are saying goodbye to then it is not really a goodbye- it is the epitome of hypocrisy and "falsefacedness". It is called "good riddance" not "goodbye"

Aaah Ok ....

For sure.

A sad hello is when something you have tried to say goodbye to resurfaces. "Oh its you again, didn't I say goodbye ... well I guess I'm not done with you yet" hehe. Like self doubt, that's a good example ...

A happy goodbye is when you know that the absence of this being or object in your life, will enrich it to all end. Like a cancer patient saying goodbye to that last destructive cancer cell in their body.

love to all.

Yes there is such a thing, when the person that you are saying hello to is problamatic and a burden. And that same person has over stayed there welcome, it is definately a happy goodbye

a sad hello is when you gather or meet together to discuss something unpleasant, or that the meeting is due to something tragic or to discuss problems... a happy goodbye is to part ways with someone for good or not, but with the wish of success to where that person is going, and to whatever reason he have for leaving... it wishing them the best life could offer to where they are going...

there could also be another term for happy goodbye, sometimes that's good riddance...
