I'm not angry. The Spurs are one of the smallest markets in the NBA. San Antonio has only around 1 1/4 million people. Compare that to markets like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and you'll see why they don't bring in money like those teams. But that doesn't mean their fans are any less proud or supportive of them than other teams' fans.

Of the 30 NBA teams, the Spurs are #9 in team merchandise sales at the NBA store (in NYC and online).
Of the top 25 selling jerseys, Tim Duncan is #11.
So the team/players bring in money in merchandising.
Where it falls short is media (eyeballs watching TV/reading the newspapers).
San Antonio, while being the 7th largest city and 29th largest metro area, is only 37th in the media market. San Antonio is sort of isolated away from other, larger populated areas.
Less eyeballs watching means ads/commercials are cheaper. So the NBA/ESPN/TNT don't make as much money selling those ads.
The upside is *in* San Antonio--that market sets records for percentage of people watching Spurs games. This means, while there might not be a lot of people here---a huge percentage of them watch the games.
So there isn't anything wrong with their fan base, locally. Globally, Spurs are really picking up fans.

I'm a Spurs fan so I'll try to describe it to you from my perspective.
The Spurs are fundamentally a very good team, but they are not an explosive offensive team, and their star players do not fit the Kobe Bryant, D Wade, Shaq, Lebron James type of mold. They play with gritty defense, and that typically does not attract as many fans.
In addition, they are in San Antonio, which compared to a market like Los Angeles or New York is absolutely tiny.
In those terms, the Spurs probably don' t bring the NBA as much money, but ticket sales are solid and the fanbase is very devoted.

I've never heard that, since most of the games are usually sold out. But, no... I'd say that most of the fan base are hard-working people who work hard for their money, and don't make quite enough to buy tickets for games.
There are season ticket holders and there are some very wealthy people in S.A., but I'd say the majority of this population cannot afford the time or money to attend games.
I went to a game a year or so ago... that was on a pair of tickets that a friend won.
But we love our Spurs and our Spurs know we love them.

They are not flashy so they are not interesting to watch. The NBA is about viewers and selling jerseys and I don't see everyone wearing Spurs jerseys.

People think Spurs are boring because they don't have dunks and fancy no look dishes. Why do you think the States loses to European teams? They give to much importance to style and to little to winning.

Yes, their fan base is bitter and angry - because they know everyone hates them and everyone notices what really goes on in these games.
Like I said, they've been responsible for the two lowest rated finals in history, 2003 and 2005........
