Great question.... STAR!!
Many a times I ask a question even if I think I know the answer..... just to see what other points of view could emerge, especially since I do not ask science or math questions which have definite answers.
So, why do those people not ask? Most of the possible reasons have been stated above. I just want to highlight another possibility...... this forum has a lot of intelligent contributors as well as vigorous ones, but one thing you can be sure of... if ever you ask a stupid or ill conceived question, you are bound to get snubbed.. a lot of answers can be rude and even insulting and some people do not have the courage to face such answers.
There are some others who underrate this forum and believe that their questions can not be answered here properly, even as they believe their own answers are always the best.
This variety and spread of participants is what makes this forum so great... I really love it.

No. Sometimes it's just easier to give advice than to ask for it...When you ask a question you are admitting your vulnerability, admitting that you don't know something. Some people have a hard time with that.
Personally I answer a lot more than I ask only because it's fun. I don't have that many questions or the ones that I do have I wouldn't expect to have answered here. Also in this forum you lose points for asking & gain for answering. Usually I only ask (pointed) questions when I'm having a rough time & I'm on a rant about something & I just want people to agree with me! :)
Hey, I'm honest if nothing else!

Not really. No one can know all the answers. I can think of three possible reasons why some people(including me, for e.g) don't ask questions.
1. They are shy and afraid of criticism or of being rebuked at for not knowing the answer.(this does not apply in case of my yahoo-answers activities, but this has happened to me in school and college classrooms).
2. Asking take away points.(I like my points.)
3.They prefer to find their own answers through google searches, books and newspapers, and by asking friends or family.(That's what I do. I have never really felt the need of asking anything here, especially when I can get something on wikipedia or any relevant site within a few seconds compared to the few days waiting that I would have to do here.) And think about it, a lot of the answers that are given on Yahoo Answers are done by net-searching, so why not do it yourself?

Friend,
No, those who do not question do not HAVE all the answers to any question.
In fact none in the world has all the answers to all questions.
It is a continual process of questioning our self or others and trying to find a satisfying answer. From the time immemorial there are questions like the existence of God, culture and civilisation etc ......people are trying their best to find answers through readindg.listening and introspection and observing. It is going on on and on.
If they really find a good question to ask, surely they will post it.After reading the questions asked by other members and the answers given to them, they think they need not post again the same question .They try in other way to find a satisfying answer if there is no such answer in the answers in YA.
If the feel really to ask, they will surely ask.
NONE KNOWS ALL ANSWERS TO ALL QUESTIONS.

No, people who only answer are those who are trying to fortify what they profess. They are not necessarily trying to force their beliefs onto others, but rather "Sell" this to themselves. Those who are "Selling" ideas to others are often doing so in order to maintain their beliefs and refuse another possibilities.
Teachers "ask" questions to hear what their students have learned. A teacher who does not ask questions will not get a true feedback and can continue thinking they're a great teacher.
A scientist will "ask" a question to explore their subject. Failure to "ask" will hinder the scientist’s ability to create hypotheses and test the hypothesis and end up like the scientists who created maps on paper "selling" the idea that the world is flat. They did such a great job at selling this to kings and popes that when a scientist that "asked" questions about the boundaries of Earth, well he was scorned. (Galileo) Well, history has us all giggling at that one.
What would Sherlock Homes be like if he failed to “Ask” questions? I would think that many of those murders would go unsolved.

Absolutely not, maybe they are shy or just don't think to ask questions. If you don't ask how will you know, no question is to dumb to ask or answer, the smart person learns from asking. I don't know everything but I am not a person that asks questions but I do listen to others, if I need to find something out that I feel is important to know I will ask. There are alot of personalitys in this small world of ours, thank God. Some stay quite to learn, others talk to learn, who are you?

Question and Answer process is a part of communication. Logically, it is not possible for a person to have all the answers. At best a few people could have evolved to a level where they have the capability to get the answers by themselves, when they consciously choose to seek the answers.

We all, with no exception, have some answers for all the questions. In many cases there are no right or wrong answers. Just opinions. That is all. Against any questions , raised here, we all can give opinions.
I feel the best way to start to ask questions is to start to give answers ( opinions) and that will lead us to seek others views.

I answer a lot, but I do not ask a lot. I think it is because I have the luxury of having my own real counsel, here with my family. I only usually answer things that I actually have talent or knowledge in, I do not answer in all categories as I am not a know it all, and I do not know the answers to everything.

No, they are either shy or scared of possible severe criticism or highly abusive languages as many Indians use, completely ignoring community guidelines, mnners & basic ettiquettes of educated people & go berserk like rogue people, not having even slightest tolerance at all. Such people mostly face absence of peace in their home life too & put questions that they have adjustment problem with spouse & want separation, ... etc.
