My friend has a slow hand-me-down computor that's never had anything like Spyware Search and Destroy. She says she has Norton Systemworks, but I'm not sure if she's protected against Spyware. Is she?

According to symantec.com (Norton product website), no. Systemworks does not come with spyware protection.

Suggest Spybot Search&Destroy. It can be downloaded from lots of places... www.majorgeeks.com, e.g.

I had Norton on my HP desk top. I hated it. My HP has Vista on it. It's been nothing but a problem since new. I don't know if the Vista running system played a part in it or not. When i get my copy of windows 7 and get that computer reloaded with a new OS I'm gonna give Norton another try on that machine and see how it does. If it does as rotten as it did with the Vista OS on it that will be the end of it with Norton. Besides it just not running right on that computer i had it on this computer that i am on right now. Norton 2010 was just as sorry as 360 to me.I have s some nasty code that i can send to any computer in my shop just to see for myself how well Norton would work. I tried 10. It detected all 10. Out of the ten it only removed four. The other 6 were able to shut down Norton. They disabled it. I'm still gonna give it a try on windows 7 when i get it. But i don't look to be impressed any. So far the only AV that has really impressed me is Kaspersky. It caught all 10 at the door. Never even made it on the machine. Detected all ten and blocked them. That's the way a good all in one AV should work. Don't just clean up after a infection, Keep it from happening all together.

The short answer is that it is not effective. The long answer is that Norton, Mcafee, PCCillin, Panda, and other commercial anti virus and anti spyware applications don't work all that well. At one time or another each of these programs use to work well but then virus creaters created viruses to target these programs and take advantage of them. yes she is, but why not add spybot search & destroy and addaware SE they run just fine with any anti virus tool out there. no one tool will find all spyware & addware. you need more than 1. I use 4 and this free tool will help greatly with an old pc as it will have many registry errors and files that need removed. http://www.iobit.com good luck hope this helps.
