I love women's softball and my daughter is very competitive and would love to play professionally some day, but to answer your question, it's simply a matter of economics. Professional men's baseball draws millions of fans and has lucrative televsion deals which allows the owners to pay the players like they do. If women's softball became as mainstream and Dot Richardson was as well known as Derek Jeter, then things would equal out.

Well your answer is simple really, if you want softball players to make as much money as baseball players all you have to do is convince about 200 million people to like professional softball and be willing to go to games to pay admission which will then draw sponsors who will put in more money and then you can get a tv contract. See easy. I know if I give a real answer you will say i'm sexist but you are being a bit naive. There are more male sports fans and guys want to watch guys play sports because (overall in general with some exceptions that I'm aware of that you don't need to point out) guys sports are more fun to watch.

For much the same reason that the world chess champion can cash in big -- people, wealthy people, are willing to pay to watch him play -- whereas the world checkers champion is probably sittin' around a cracker barrel somewhere, waiting to drub the next rube for ten bucks if not merely a quarter a king.

Supply and demand. There's just not much demand for watching softball. There's some, sure, but it's insignificant compared to what baseball attracts.

well the truth would be that not many people like softball that much to pay 40 for a ticket and 8 bucks for a beer
