It's not so important about the number of cylinders as it is what is the voltage of the lawn tractor? If it is 12V then go ahead. A long time ago, they used to use 12v batteries to jump start 6V cars.

Yes you can, but make sure you're jumping 12V Source on the Tractor.
Do not crank up the Car or Truck.
Just attach the battery v=cables properly.
If your battery is real bad you won't be able to jump it.
You will need to go directly to the starter and jump from there by tapping the positive side to the screw where the Starter is There should be a Red cable to it. Touch it with a hot lead and it will spin.
Make sure your clutch is pushed in and in lock position so that your tractor will crank with you off the seat otherwise you will need to jump the safety switch underneath the seat and lock the clutch inorder to perform this technique.

They both have to have the same size or type of batteries.
6 or 12 volt.
Usually lawn tractors have 6 volt systems while autos have 12 volt systems.
You would tend to damage the smaller system if you use a larger system. (Wires, fuses, relays, batteries etc)

I suppose you could, technically, but I wouldn't reccomend it. See, most lawn tractors have a 6 volt starting system, whereas your car, when running puts out 14 or so. not to mention MANY MANY MANY HUNDREDS more amps. this would most likely burn out your lawn tractor's starting system.

the nubmer of amps on your car is indifferent, unless u short circuit the battery. But make sure that the voltage is correct, if there are a electronic system in your lawnmower, then it might burn out, at a to high voltage.
