wel it depends on a few factors.
FIRST--what is the capacisty of your laptop memory?

Next, what is the speed of your laptop memory?
Theres different speeds out there.

you could even give your compaq model number, that would be easy to look up for me
As far as being in India, dont know, but once you tell me what type and what speed you need, I can better answer your question

hey dude, to upgrade ur ram to 1gb.. you need to have the xact configuration of the present RAM ur using now!!
configuration is like.. the speed, format, and type (either static ram or dynamic ram)... you cant add a dynamic ram to upgrade ur laptop, while using the static ram... they dont work..

As far as i knew, u can get a 1GB RAM around
Rs.2,500/- to Rs.5,000/- price varies with the company...
jus try to check them out in the computer pheripheral stores..
or it better to visit the dealer u hav purchased the Compaq Laptop..

We dont know the prices in India, thats for you to look up, but it is simple, open the bay, the chips probably hinge in along a center spine just like open ing a book. Take out the old ones and put in the new ones. You should have told us whaich model you have. If you just have regular pc memory, you can add unlike amounts. If you are using ddr2, you need the same size and same exact timing

Ok, I have a COMPAQ Presario V2100. I had low ram. If you have a warranty for your computer or w/e then tell them you are running low on it. Either way, it depends how much RAM you had at the begining when you got your computer. You can go to http://www.download.com and seach RAM Optimizing or Freeing Ram. That way you dont have to spend money.

u first have to check out the user manual which came along with ur machine. it will have specifications such as what maximum ram is supported and of which format such as rd, ddr, ddr2, etc.
also the cost depends on the type of ram. older formats such as sdram cost higher than ddr2.
u can check out www.npithub.com for the latest prices of laptop-memory.
