Not many years ago when they were doing poorly, no one spoke out to help them. Now they are profiting, people want to tear them apart. People's memories are often convenient.

If you sell lemonade and the price of lemons goes up, you can make more profit even if your profit percentage remains the same.

If the price of lemonade goes too high people might switch to orange juice. Maybe we should elect politicians who support alternative energy research instead of those who suppress it.

Why blame the oil companies. If they went broke and didn't produce oil, we'd be worse off.

Take Exxon Mobil for example, back in 1973 the stock was over $100 a share. It isn't that now. It was a very poor investment for many years. Now, finally they are doing well. We should applaud them, don't you think?

And no, I don't own the stock.

Yes, I agree CEO are overcompensated, but that is a problem across many industries. And yes, I agree, the political system needs reform.

Still, I defend the companies right to make a profit.

Well, I can't say that most people in America ever had much of a love for the oil industry since Dallas went off the air waves and J.R. has long since been shot. There is a between making a profit and bleeding the general public dry.
For example:
Exxon's CEO and his stunning $400 million pay and retirement package — which an industry spokesman still defends.
Okay, he may deserve a good pay check but this is crazy!
Chevron's CEO received $37 million in total compensation last year. Conoco Phillips' CEO got $17 million. Those are big numbers, but experts say they are in line with Wall Street's inflated standards.
These are things that anger people! Where do you think the money is going?? Not to charity.
Perhaps this could be a good career move, though! How do you get to be an oil company CEO??
We hate them because we are basically jealous and they haven't come up with some reasonable excuse for the high prices. So, we get angry and we get jealous.
It is always best to live near where you work. That will be a good plan for everyone's futures. That is until we have a good train system in this country like we once did (and Europe does today) we are held in bondage to the car/gas.
The truth is, we were foolish as a nation to rip out most of the railways that we had in most towns in the USA. We are a big country with very little transportation options except in a hand full of large cities. Now, big oil companies have big voices in big goverment. Do they want you to have great options to commute? Nope, they want you to have to own, drive, and gas up a car. Things won't improve and Americans aren't one to fight the government much at all these past decades. So, we will just complain, be jealous, and poorer. Now, if my family was involved in oil like a certain President.....

I do not recall the oil companies doing poorly ever, either. I do however, recall hearing recently that the oil companies are having the largest profits in history. Maybe these record profits are due to higher gas prices? How else would the oil companies be making more money? I think most consumers are questioning the fact that the oil companies are having record profits at the same time that gasoline prices are the highest they've ever been. No coincidence and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize it, either.

it is like evaluating apples to oranges... you're forgetting: a million. Apple products are no longer a necessity. they seem to be a luxurious. jointly as we are able to technically stay devoid of oil; it extremely is not functional in at present's society. 2. Apple has opposition. Google. Microsoft. Oil companies do no longer - they have all merged. 3. Oil actively stems and buys government officers (lobbies is the word they use) to do away with opposition and sparkling potential. they could theoretically have opposition yet do no longer. Google's droid, working example, easily is creeping up and beating out the marketplace share for clever telephones. i'm valuable that'll swing back with the subsequent iphone a sprint. 4. Oil additionally actual harms the ecosystem. Apple products have not got that result (yet it must be argued they have some adverse result.)

My memory is not short, they've never needed help. they saw the need to rebuild and build new refineries decades age but didn't want to spent their extremely high profits and make excuses the public doesn't want a refinery in their backyard, bull..there is plenty of space to build refinery's and not bother anyone..but using excuses will only make their profits higher..the industry's that need plenty of blame is the auto industry building large engines that gussely and waste fuel, brainwashing the public into thinking mom needs a hugh SUV or four wheel drive monster truck to go to the grocery store..or a billion school buses to transport little kiddy's to and from schools accross town instead of building a neighborhood school like once was and have the family responsible to get them there....or building homes with akers of grass to mow and waste more gas and polite with..there is plenty of blame to go around...everyone needs to take a real hard look at what is going on and willing to make real changes instead of just blow hot air...

i don't remember any point in history when they were "doing poorly" but even if they were, it doesn't mean that they have to be leeches & suck the life blood out of the working people of this country. The rich can afford the gas for their planes, yachts & cars so it isn't really affecting them. It is, however making it so an honest working person can barely afford to live off what's left after the vultures are through feeding!!!!

That's an easy question. Because no one wants to take responsibility for for helping to make them rich- by becoming more & MORE dependent on the products they sell. The Oil Companies are the "scapegoats" for our OWN dependency lifestyles.

I don't hate the oil companies, but I do question the ethical foundation of their profit. If there is nothing unethical going on, so be it.

like everyone says the fault lies withe consumer so if they are truly opposed to wars they can make peace by buying electric. as to why they do not like the price or have trouble paying for it. i would like annyone who objects to search for the UNsite and ask the UNto contribute to world peace by installing green power everywhere and electric cars also search car sites out and ask them for electric cars. ask your politicians for them go to Motor City Detroit and put the motor back in Motor City without the fumes. think LA would like this here is a slogan for you ''instead of the fog my lungs got lost in the smog'' here is good on then say''now i know it is safe to walk my dog as both it and me will not drop dead in the smog''then picture an add saying it is all thanks to the electric car.this is not a genuine advertisement but any electric car company or anyone who wants to sell them can feel free to use it .
