Okay, Answers crew, do any of you have pH paper and Softsoap lying about? I would like to know the pH of softsoap because I suspect that it is too alkaline for my skin and causing an unpleasant allergic reaction on my hands, but I have no pH paper and therefore no way to verify this hypothesis. Can anyone test this for me or otherwise provide information on the alkalinity of Softsoap? Thanks. (In case you need the extra info, it's the clear kind, nothing special, just basic Softsoap clear hand soap.)

Thanks for the help. I guess I should have added that it's a liquid hand soap, not a bar. I will take care not to conflate alkalinity and pH.

The pH of a softsoap is 7.0. I actually measured the pH of a softsoap using a pH meter that I bought last month. The pH of the soap is exactly the same as that of a pure water.

Don't really know, oh tender-skinned one. Don't have a bar of something called Softsoap. BTW, pH and alkalinity are two different things; while they are related, don't get them confused.

The pH should be 7.0, but I strongly doubt that the pH is causing the problem. Perhaps, you should look at the ingredients and consult your doctor. You are allergic to one or more ingredients in the soap itself.
