Yes, you can own an arena. It will probably cost you about $300 million.

The rights to own a new NBA team will probably run you about another $200 million.

And the most successful owners are more interested in their own ego than making money off of the team, so be prepared to lose millions of dollars every year you own the team.

Have fun!

All right, it will cost you nine figures to own a team. If you are smart enough to be willing to pay a quarter of a billion dollars for an NBA team, you'd better have plenty of more money to back that up.

And, if you are that smart, you'll need to be able to convince a city to build you an arena. You'll have to kick in part of the cost, but you'd prefer the city, county and state to pay more than half of it. Otherwise, you'll lose even more money.

So get to work and invent the new Windows operating system or something.

It is unprofitable to own an "NBA" arena. To make enough money you need to be able to rent out the arena year round, for other activities such as concerts, hockey, WNBA, bull fighting, boxing matches, etc.

The typical salary pool for any NBA team is in the millions.

But, i don't want to diswade you, it is very possible, look at Mark Cuban, he ran a small internet business for a few years and then sold it, now own the Mavericks,

You got to be filthy rich to do that you need at least 100 million dollars if you want to get a team and do the stuff you said.

before any of that, the NBA has to be willing to expand.
David Stern, the commish has said repeatedly he has no current or future plans for expansion.
