Rings are given out by the individual team, so it's up to the owner or executive staff to decide who gets one. Typically, however, a championship team is sufficiently generous to lob one in the direction of anybody who was involved. Nomar Garciaparra was traded to the Cubs in 2004 and didn't play in Boston's championship postseason, but they gave him a ring anyway.

That depends on the organization from which he was traded.

Post season shares are voted on by the players, generally in late August, before the rosters expand. So a player who was traded away may or may not get a share, or even a partial share. But rings are decided by the front office, and some are more generous than are others.

Some organizations give rings not only to every player who donned their team's uniform during that season, as well as the manager and the coaches, but to the scouts, the broadcasters, etc. Other organizations are simply too parsimonious for that. Carleton Fisk, for example, was released by the Chisox a day after setting the record for games caught, in 1993. The organization refused to allow him even a partial share, let alone anything else. In fact, they refused to allow him into the clubhouse to wish his former teammates well.

By contrast, to open their '94 season, the Blue Jays hosted the Chisox. By this time, Darrin Jackson, who had been traded to Toronto during spring training in '93 and traded to the Mets by the Jays in June'93, had signed with Chicago, and lined up with the rest of the '93 Jays present in order to receive his ring.

No, that would be really unfair to the players that were with the championship team for the whole season. The player traded didn't go through all the up and downs the team had together in the season. Good question.

The Red Sox gave every player who played in a game in 2004 a ring. That includes someone like Nomar Garciaparra, who was traded to the Cubs in July. It also includes all of the minor leaguers.

I guess the better answer would be that it depends on the team, since it is paying for it. But clearly the wealth gets shared sometimes.

It depends on the organization and exactly what they want to do. The Cardinals gave Larry Walker a ring for helping the team in coaching the year before.

Are you retarded he's not on the team anymore? Thats like asking if someone gets traded to a team to make them better and they win do they not get a ring since they weren't there to start the season. I don't think so! Even a 4 year old could figure that out.

Not a ring because he didn't win the world series with them. However, I remember when Nomar left the Bo Sox they won the world series that year and they offered him a partial share of the bonus $, he declined.

no, he would not get a ring. however, if he went from one league to the other, he could still possibly lead the league he just came from in an offensive category. for example, willie mcgee was traded from the cardinals to the a's in midseason. he had enough national league at-bats for his batting average to qualify for the batting title. it held up and he won the national league batting title while ending the season in the american league.
