But independents are as happy as Democrats, so could it be that Republicans are delusional happy?

Why would not it be logical? Everyone is at the SAME level of happiness , Republicans (who are around 30% of population) are much more happier. There is a valid question why? My conclusion they are delusional , you have a better explanation ? please state it.

I don't think politics has much to do with happiness, unless you are running for office and lose an election.

But, if I had to choose, I would say that I don't think Republicans are very happy these days. How could they be happy when their Great White Hope is showing such dismal poll numbers? How could they be happy when that Iraq Death Toll just keeps mounting and they realize the orphans and widows being left behind?

They had Rush Limbaugh Dreams of a Utopian existence, with every man for himself, and the Poor treated like pariahs simply because they were poor. They dreamed of their religion practiced in government, in schools, in courthouses, in roller rinks, while the beliefs of others were shoved into the background. They dreamed of an American Society where the government had unlimited power, the rich ruled over the poor and the middle class ceased to exist.

It was a total failure, this experiment in NeoCon Ideology. We are left to pick up the pieces, try to pay down the tremendous debt, and start over. But, don't blame them! Some dreams are doomed from the beginning. Just be careful and don't let it happen again.

I see nothing in your argument that would cause Republicans to be delusionally happy by political selection.

However, because it is logical that someone who is less happy might also desire change in order to become more happy, it would also be true that someone would become liberal in order to pursue change, since Democrats are more often liberal than are Republicans and since liberals pursue change.

Moreover, if one desires change, even if happy, and one realizes that the manifestation of change will increase happiness, than the respondent will likely report a lower than anticipated degree of satisfaction.

Perhaps Republicans are on average happier because their view of the world has been the prevalent one of people in power for awhile where as the reverse is true of Democrats? I mean if you disagree with the way things in your country are going you're less likely to be happy than if you agree with the way things are going in your country.

On the other hand it's interesting to note two further things:

Firstly that religious fundamentalists (of many kinds) on average report themselves as being happier than the general population.

Secondly that those who are unhappy or pessimistic have been observed to on average have a more realistic world view than optimistic or happy people.

Well I'd be a happy camper too if I never had to admit I was wrong, even when I was slapped in the face with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

That's how Republicans are. They're never wrong and it was always somebody else's fault, usually Clinton's. Or Carter's or FDR's in a pinch.

Makes for a pretty blissful existence when you can skip through life knowing that all you have to do is point the finger toward someone else when the crap hits the fan, regardless of whether your accusation is true or not.

Blind faith must be a truly wonderful thing.

Politically I would say no party is Happier than another. They all want something the other has which causes unhappiness.

However as a person, political affiliation has nothing to do with your emotional state of mind.

Great spin. You take the fact that Republicans are happy and make it a bad thing. Poor child.

Im happy now and was happy when Clinton was in office. My happiness does not depend upon who sits in the oval office.

You're kidding. I am a republican and I have two neighbors who are "yellow dog" liberal. I don't see a lot of happiness coming from either of them. All they do is ***** and raise hell about everything from Katrina to oil company profits. You call that happy?

I have no answer, because the points asked about in this question are not related to each other in the least. Political Parties have nothing to do with hapiness.
