This website says year three is the year you can start thinning the clusters. Year four, the grape vine is considered mature.

Boy, it depends if you are training it first or just letting it go crazy. Are you training to a scaffold system, then count on at least 5 years.....closer to 6. If letting it go wild, untrained, that may delay flowering as the plant remains in this wild vegetative growth pattern.

Review grape pruning. Pruning may help convert a wild child bent on growth only into a bearing mode.

i have one i planted 6 yrs ago...no grapes yet. ho hum.
