On a Murray push mower, model 22541X92D. there is a spring that is attached to the throtel linkage, with the other end attaching to the choke/ governor. This end resembales a paper clip. My question is , what does this end attach to. At present it is on a loop found in the middle of the governor linkage., but this does not work the choke properly.

This sounds like a Briggs and Stratton engine. Go to "outdoordistributors.com and type in the engine model number. The site will provide an exploded view of the engine including the carburator. You will find the engine model number on the engine cowling near the sparkplug.

You are talking about two different things here. First is the choke, that is used when you are first trying to start the engine. The second is the governor. Underneath the engine cover is a wind vane that a rod is connected to. The faster the engine turns then the more air that is applied to the vane and this will help close off the throttle and slow the engine. The spring is trying to increase the speed. At some point you reach a balance where the force of the wind vane and the force of the spring are equal and a steady speed is reached. good luck.
