Longtime Buffalo Bills great Bruce Smith with an even 200 has the career record. (2 better then Reggie White)

NY Giant Michael Strahan has the single season record with 22.5 in 2001.

And the most impressive is most sacks in a single game - 7- by Derrick Thomas of the KC Chiefs in 1990.

You have some good stats given by others. I may add that sacks were not recorded until 1982 or 1983. They say Deacon Jones of the LA Rams had about twice as many as anyone else. The great Bob Lilly and others could not be included in the stats.

All-time - Bruce Smith

Single season - Strahan

....of course both of these since the sack was officially kept as a stat

Bruce Smith, although sacks that Lawrence Taylor got were before sacks were a stat so I dont know if LT would be in the lead or not if they counted all of them.

Bruce Smith, but it is a joke he played until he was like 50 and he last 35 sacks were gimmies.
