We are having lots of problems connecting to the server. A good deal of the time, our account is not present in the wireless network. I have made tons of calls to TWC, and still have the same problem. I asked for a secured wireless network and the rep said he changed the status, but it still shows as unsecured WHEN it shows. I believe that my network is being pirated by neighbors.

I need to find better service. Which company is the best for wireless networking?

Dear ax64: TWC has expressed to me that they are indeed responsible for maintaining the equipment that they have put in my home.

Your comments aren't very nice or helpful, but thanks all the same for your time.

I actually worked for Adelphia before they were bought out by Time Warner. Not many providers are going to run a wireless network for you, and even if they did, it's really not worth the money. My suggestion would be to stop paying for them to manage it for you, go to your local electronics store, and purchase your own wireless router. The configuration for it is just a few web pages built into the router itself, and if you go with a major brand (linksys, netgear) the instructions are usually sufficient to allow you to secure your network with a fairly limited knowledge of computer networking. You'll save yourself money in the long run and you can stop calling the reboot monkeys (what first level technicians were called; all they did was tell you to reset everything and if that didn't fix it, they passed you on to somebody higher).

Sorry, it might be there respomsibilty to setup you internet and connect your network but there is no way they can configure your router from there headquarters.

Someone would have to physically come to your home and set the security in your router and configure your computers with the security key.

So if some customer support person tells you it is done they are either very ignorant of how there own system works or they are just trying to get rid of you.

I personnaly have never heard of any Internet Provider that excepts responsability of setting up your wireless network.

I believe it is your responsibility to configure your WiFi network after TWC provides the equipment to you.

Perhaps you need to read the user manual that was provided to you with the equipment and become an informed user.

Sorry, but computers and the internet are not like watching TV. You have a responsibility to learn what you are doing and how to use your equipment.

This is yet another example why people should have to pass at least a couple of tests to be licensed to use the internet much like Ham radio operators are required to get licenses.

The only difference is that you use one of the laptops to set it up. (Laptops come with both Ethernet and wireless adapters, desktops typically come with only Ethernet adapters, so there's nothing in a desktop that you don't have in a laptop.) Aside from changing the password, setting up security, etc,. you pretty much connect the wireless router (I do this professionally and I recommend Linksys - the WRT54GS is all you're going to need for at least 5 years) to the modem, power it up and turn the laptop on. (Make sure the "wireless" switch - usually on the front or one side - is turned on.) The laptop will find the signal and connect to it.

it's not the Internet providers fault. securing the network is easy and you just need to call who ever makes the wireless router you have. EG. Linksys, etc... you can get the number for tech support from their web site.

Yep, this is a router issue, not TWC.
