lifting and speed depend on position. You need to be good enough to play for them but not for the NFL either that or be so good that they will pay more money for you than the NFL teams would. or be old and on your way out of football and play there for a little.
BIG thing college!!!!!

Well if you have been a solid college player that has been given a try out for an NFL team... well odds are pretty good that your agent can get you a tryout for any AFL team. If you're not really on the radar (which I assume is the case) you would try out for any of the AF2 teams... the AF2 is the development league for arena football. You wouldn't be able to pick which team you would advance to, but if what you really want is to play ball in the league this is the route. The AF2 season is already under way, so it would be very difficult to convince a coach you should be given the chance to jump in and take someone's roster spot... you can however be in touch with coachs as far as tryouts for next season (which goes in the spring). AF2 teams closest to you would be Fort Wayne or Green Bay.

I checked on arenafootball.com... the chicago rush had open try outs last October 16th. To contact the team about future try outs call: Tel: 773-243-3434

I know someone who was a multi-year starter in the secondary for the Northern Illinois Huskies. He couldn't get through the tryouts.

You still need quite a football background in order to make the AFL. Despite that, few players go from the AFL to the NFL.
