Heres the Story:
Scott played with new jersey for around 12 years and won 3 stanley cups!
His 3rd one came against his brother and at the handshake, both brothers were emotional.
Then when scott's contract ran out, the devils offered to pay double his contract to stay with jersey but he wouldn't accept, he just wanted to play with his brother and help him fullfill his dreams and wishes because he has already been there and done that!
Very Emotional Story and What A loss for us devils!!!

They are brothers so they share the same last name.
Scott was signed as a free agent and Rob was traded for from I beleive Calgary. I would guess that part of the reason Scott signed with Anaheim is the chance to play on a contending team with his bro.

For the dumbest reasons possible. Pull up a chair and I will tell you.
Back in the '03 SCF, Carole Niedermayer, mother of Rob and Scott Niedermayer, told her oldest son, Scott, that Rob doesn't have a Stanley Cup ring. I know your first thought would be "So?". Mother Neidermayer didn't see it that way. She encouraged Scott to help Rob along, and with the Ducks to win, since Scott already has two Rings with the Devils. Well, Lou Lamerillohad a chance to get Rob at trade deadline, but passed on him. After that, it was all history. The Devils got the Cup, Rob went home without, during the summer break, Scott decided to go west and play for Anaheim. He did it in hopes of getting the captaincy, for being closer to Vancouver(2.5 hour plane ride), for a bit more money, to make Mother happy, and to get the Ducks a Stanley Cup and to legitimize the Ducks in the NHL.
We Devils fans see Scott and his brother as a bit of a loser.

One signed as a free agent after years in Jersey (Scott) and the other was traded there by Calgary (Rob). Scott signed so he could play with his brother. Seven different sets of brothers have won a cup together.
