gollum.... he let a possesion get the better of him. while it is unrealistic for this to happen in todays society it can happen to an extent. Gollum's greed for the ring can be compared to a normal persons greed for something like money. it changed him in the worst way possible. he was almost unable to function without it. he hurt whoever he could (even himself) just for the chance to get it back. there is no honor in backstabbing and lying. it is just pitiful

I'd have to say Thorin, since he lost all sense of morals upon finding the treasure. I'd have to say his behavior was pretty bad, and unforgiveable. Although he was remembered in a good way after his death and repentance, he lost a lot of respect from his previous actions.
