Sent them millions of dollars, military hardware, fought their war for their independence, attempted to shore up a weak government/leadership, lost billions in capitalist business dealings (when the country was overrun by the communists who'd previously promised not to cross that border and break the cease-fire agreement). As the country fell, there was an atempt at a mass exodus. Tried to evacuate anyone who'd directly helped the U.S. and their families. Those that did not make it out, were generally, executed.

Before they pulled out, the US did help many Vietnamese meet their Creator in the Afterlife.

TheUS military took out of the country the mostly men who were interpretors and journalists and had tried to help the US...
there were many left behind...not only Vietnamese who had assisted the US, but thousands of half-American, half Vietnamese children fathererd by US troops...
when we finally leave Iraq we will leave a similar legacy

They sent most of them to America. Viet Vets were disowned but the Vietnamese were welcome to stay.
