what the hell? "alternative"?

alternative rock music is an alternative to the crap played on radio. these would be punk/grunge type bands. so whats with all the little fall out boy fans calling them "alternative" as if its some kind of pop genre on its own. somebody explain this to me please?

no, i'm just saying this: the word alternative, in any case, means a different option, or a different route than the mainstream. these bands are the mainstream, mass-produced music, wether they're good or not.

just look up the word "alternative". its an alternative to the mainstream. a different route. a path for the outcast.

finally someone said it!! you can't have a mainstream band be alternative, thats contradicting! if anything FOB is just pop rock, they have very little punk in their songs any more.

Lets put it this way, if MTV shows you, your not alternative anymore.

Alternative is really two parts.
1. Mainstream rock that wants to be alternative and has sold out.
2. Good old fashioned indie rock.

most people call bands like fall out boy and mcr alternative now a days.
there are different kinds of "alternative" depening on which word follows it.
for example: alternative rock, alternative pop, alternative metal.

I cant stand it when people consider bands like FOB & P!ATD to be rock or punk. Their really pop. Their both stupid bands and the lead singer of P!ATD can't sing at all. No wonder he got hit with bottles at a show he did. Haha, loser.
