Back in his era, I bought all his albums and listened to them over and over again. He did the background songs to the movie Harold and Maude--a cult favorite which I saw eight times at the theater. Yes, I have DEFINITELY heard of Cat Stevens. Oh, and I named my first-born after him. No, not CAT but Steven. lol

Pretty good folk singer from the 60's/70's. He has a new album out, but his name is no longer Cat Stevens It's Yussuf Islam, and the new album is called "Another Cup" and I like it. The funny thing is that I love Heavy music.

Cat Stevens was a top star around the 60's. I thought he was great. Of course this was his professional name. He was a Greek/American and had a typical Greek name which I do not remember. He changed his name to an Ayatollah and went to Iran to study and live. You should be able to get some information at your local library or perhaps web search can turn up more on him. I do not remember what made him change to this radical behavior, and with all this terrorist business I have not heard or read anything about him lately. Anyway, he was very talented and I enjoyed his music.

There USED to be a singer by that name, but he changed his name to Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam.
He DID NOT record "Cat's in the Cradle" (that was Harry Chapin on his album "Verities and Balderdash")
Probably the most well known song Cat Stevens ever wrote was "The First cut is the deepest" later recorded by Rod Stewart and most recently by Sheryl Crow.
But the song that made US charts was "Wild World."

Um, yes, he was famous back in the dark ages, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, like in the 1970's. He wrote many famous songs, some of which he performed himself. Listen to "Moonshadow" and "Morning Has Broken". He left the music business at the height of his fame to become an Islamic monk, but he is performing again recently.

He was a good songwriter and singer in the late sixtes early seventies, I liked his album covers as much as the music. He converted to Islam in the late seventies and now lives in Paris, he supported the death sentence given to Soloman Rushdie for his book about the Muslim faith. I think he is a supporter of Osama bin Laden.

He's a fabulous singer who has sold millions of albums, very famous guy. He's become a weirdo in a sense that he's recently been name-changing for attention, but as far as music goes, he's worth the price of the CD.
