True happiness is experienced when one pursues a goal dear to our heart. Something we love... things that make us lose sense of time... remaining engrossed in which one earns livelihood and also contributes to the community.

A desire fulfilled... a wish accomplished... always makes one happy. To remain perennially happy... we must follow the dictates of our soul atman within. It is our soul atman residing in our heart that has manifested the body and the goal of life also belongs to our soul atman. Choosing a goal of life in conformity to the requirements of our soul atman induces permanent happiness.

Truly speaking getting rich does not make us happy. All wealth is ephemeral in nature. Today it belongs to us... tomorrow it may belong to someone else. What of the happiness index in the circumstances! We must busy ourselves in tasks that keep us perennially happy. Buying a car, a new album may bring temporal but never permanent happiness.

True Happiness is just short of bliss... the permanent stage of absolute happiness that is experienced on the spiritual path. Bliss can only be experienced... it can never be explained in words! Bliss can only be experienced after reaching the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... the last leg of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation! After the gold medal winner, who is happier at the Olympics?
The correct answer is that the bronze medal winner tends to be happier than the silver medal winner, according to research conducted in 1995.
The silver medal winner can taste the gold she missed. She is thinking, "No, no, no. I missed."

Meanwhile, the bronze medal winner is clinging for dear life to his medal as if it was the edge of a cliff overlooking the abyss of nobodyhood. He is thinking, "Oh thank God I made it. I almost missed out on a medal, but at least I'm an Olympic medalist." This is the secret of happiness.

So the secret to happiness is not always to be the winner, but just behind the winner, to appreciate what you've accomplished along the way, and to have the drive to continue to the illusive goal.

the whole basis of happiness is pleasure. whether it be physical, mental, or wateva, the reason all the answers are the way they are is because being with family or doing x, y, or z pleases them.

for me it is knowing that i can always think to myself and form my own opinions and philosophies. enemies or God or chnace cannot take that away from me, without taking my life of course. and of course people that one cares about are important, equally with the former.

based on the variance in answers here, it is clear different things make different people happy. here ti is not important to ask what makes one truly happy, but rather do things that make one very happy and accept it as true happiness. of course, thats just my opinion.

True happiness for me is experienced when I feel a glowing sensation within my gut and I'm smiling without knowing it after witnessing acts of selfless kindness from others, animals basking in the sun, infants smiling at strangers, music played from the soul, conversations that shake your world, the scent of jasmine tea, the rush from love, the rush from dying, and so on.

what makes me happy is when nothing in life matters, and you just wanna have a good time (not at the expense of others)........for example, when we are out with friends, buying eachother drinks whatever it may be... for a split second money doesnt really matter, its about having a good time, the time to laugh and enjoy life.......only if life were like that, living with no boundries, having intellectual freedom ....things would be much simpler

I believe I will die without knowing the answer to that question. Humans are not destinated to be happy, this world is too unfair and cruel.
But yes, I have a feeling of warmth in my guts when my three year old sister smiles at me through my computer screen, because I don't live with her anymore...would that be considered happiness?? I don't know

what could make one truly happy is a relative thing... relative in a sense that it depends on what could satisfy you as a person... but then though the basis may be different for each people (depending on their need, want, lifestyle.. etc.) the very foundation is only one... that finding inner satisfaction... with inner satisfaction, one would never look for more, and those who stopped looking for more are contented, and those who are contented are happy...
