tie doesn't have to "match" anything. it just has to go with your shirt. your belt however, should match you shoes.

Above all , Your tie should match Your shirt .
The combination of shirt and tie should match or enhance Your suit or jacket .
Never mix patterned shirts with patterned ties .
If You are going to wear a pochette in your jacket it should have a different colour from Your tie .

Classic style books tell You that belt and shoes should have the same colour and material . That is not always true .
If You want to go very dressed up , apply this rule .
To obtain a more relaxed feel - like in jacket with jeans -
make sure that Your shoes and belt are in the same colour scheme .

Well, your tie can match anything, but it will be prefered if you match the tie with the shirt and the shoes with your belt. It might depends too of what you're going to wear. The pants are no problem, but it depends too on the shirt. If it's a bright color shirt, you might want to use cream dockers, in reverse too, if you will use a strong color, like brown, you can use it with black pants.

Yesterday, Sunday, I dressed with Dark Blue pants, Sky Blue shirt, with a tie that was white, sky blue and dark blue. My belt was black, so I used black shoes.

Hope this helps!!

I think your belt should match your shoes first of all. Your tie has to look good with the shirt and jacket - and the jacket should match your pants. Follow?

Your tie should match your belt, but of course not completely clash with your pants either. You don't want to look too flashy or too colorful. Make sure to put it nicely together, so that everything flows nicer and matches in one way or another.

Your tie is an accessory, should match what it is accessorizing, your shirt, your jacket matches your pants, and your belt should blend in with your pants, professinal capacity. Your shoes matches your briefcase, or your belt, if none :)
