I personally think its gotten a bit out of hand to the point where its expected before you even sit down at a restaurant or anywhere. Am I crazy or isnt the idea of a tip a thanks for doing a great job. And why should it be 20% now? What service are they giving me thats better than 5 years ago? I know people say oh but they make so little - yes but they wouldnt make so little if people didnt tip so much to begin with so that employers rely on it.

FYI - I did some work as a server. Sure I enjoyed tips but I never expected them nor did I feel bad if all I got was 5%. Anything was a bonus.

They make so little because they choose to... I did not force them to wait tables. Go get a better job. I should not have to supplement your income because your boss pays you crap. I don't get tips for doing my job.
What determines what jobs get tips and what jobs don't?

I tip very well for good service above the regular 10 to 15% that is the general amount recommended. I do not tip well for poor service but I always tip a server something.

There might nicely be various components contributing to the time at which a server spends on your table, so in my opinion, i discover this theory to be insulting. (Sorry, i'm a server). even although a large area of eating out is the provider you obtain on the table, you will possibly desire to evaluate the quantity of time and attempt your server is putting into your meal from in the back of the scene. We gown and consider nutrition, pester the kitchen, combat among twenty+ servers to get in the time of the drink stations and salad bars in a well timed way for you. we are working into dry storage to restock empty straws once you like one extra one and we are monitoring your examine time and are attempting to %. your meal for this reason all whilst doing this for 5 different tables. it truly is paintings!!! PLUS we'd desire to tip out our help team, bussers, bartenders and foodwalkers etc...I tip out over twenty money on a Saturday night. i might additionally desire to easily component out that a 10% tip is an insult to a server, i'm afraid that we in straight forward terms make $3 money an hour (as a federal regulation) and 10% only does not pay the fees. 15% is barely only suited now. it truly is a stable concept and that i in my opinion savour you putting plenty theory and attempt into it, yet i'm afraid that it only does no longer paintings for servers. $8 money on $one hundred might make me cry.

To all you waiters out there, the tip is entirely on your shoulders, along with the buss staff and bartenders.
I've tipped as high as 50% when I'm impressed.
Some people are tippers, a large majority are tight wads, so it's up to you.
I worked as a waiter in my youth.

Be as cheap as you want to. If you don't frequent any restaurants then no one there will know you and spit in your food.
Many people will tip and tip well for good service whether the waitstaff need it or not. And when they return the staff is glad to see them. You, not so much.
Try serving for 1 week and experience all the demands and BS that they receive and I'll bet you start tipping even more.

Tipping should be 20%, servers work their butts off. I'm a massage therapist and I hate when people don't tip. It's a part of our income we rely on since we cannot work a 40 hour work week.

Tips are for good service and should not be paid unless you get good service.
