I think they like to feel the cold floor against their bellies. If I was covered in fur and warm all the time, the last thing I'd want to do is lay down in a warm bed!

My chocolate lab is the same way. He won't lay on a bed, towel, carpet, anything. They just like the floor for some reason.

most likely because it's cool and animals get really overheated during the summer. My cats will lie on the tile floor in the kitchen right in front of the fridge on hot days..

That's just what dogs do...except my dog would rather lay on my bed than hers. lol. My bro's theory is that it's to prevent static shock from laying on carpeting
