Community colleges are operated by the State. As such, they usually have strong articulation agreements with other State institutions. This means you are guaranteed that a class you take at a community college will fulfill the x requirement at a University campus. In some cases, associates degree earned at the CC will satisfy the full core requirements of a University. This is a big thumbs up because you don't worry/waste time trying to figure out whether that class will transfer or not. It's a major bummer to have to retake a class at a later time.

No, but they are both two year schools that offer associate degrees. Junior colleges only teach those things for which you could go on to four year college and finish your degree. Also, Junior colleges can have housing available. Community colleges teach a lot of trades as well as offering associate degrees that allow you to go onto four year colleges. Junior colleges are sometimes considered better, though, if you want to get into a four year school to finish you BA or BS later.
