The year is almost half over. How would you deal with a colleague that is not living up to their duties and get them to be motivated to catch up and exceed their goals?

In order to motivate another person, you have to have authority over that person, either as a head of department, or a leader of some kind. Only then you can apply some form of 'discipline' if the goals are not met. A friend will not be able to do much if the person is unmotivated. Ever tried to teach a cat to swim?

However, if the person is lazy, or ill, or just confused about the goals, then information/education is needed.

Hope that you can get something to work. However, if it is really 'none of your business' leave it to the bosses to do something. They need to be the ones to help/motivate.

Tell them that they will fail at life unless they do their own assignments.
