I'm having to upgrade some things at my mom's mobile home, now that she's passed away. I have a price from a local plumber, for $560 - that is for 2 new toilets, fixing the sink faucet in the master bathroom, the shower head in the master bathroom, and the shower head or handle in the guest bathroom. The mobile home is over 30 years old and lots of the pipes and things are in need of replacing. I don't think the fact it is a mobile home should factor into the labor rate, but then I don't know. The toilets I'm getting cost about $125 each or so. But it sounds like the labor might be a bit high.

Anyone really know what the plumbing labor rate is? This is for a private plumber, not a Home-Depot or Lowes install.

Unfortunately, I have to have the toilets done in the next week or so. Yes, they don't flush well and are really, really ugly looking (inside etc). You DON"T want the details. My parents lived in the place for over 30 years and didn't fix or upgrade much. A lot of the pipes etc. are very old and fragile, so I'm not going to attempt to install them myself, although my husband and I are very handy.

I'm trying to sell the place ASAP - I am not old enough to live in that "park", it's seniors only. And they do NOT let the residents rent out the homes. The space rent I'm paying is over $600 a month and it's costing me alot to let it sit.

I'm having the carpet replaced in 2 weeks.

This sounds like a lot of pipe work without seeing it. I've been in the business for 47 years and some people do tend to downgrade it some, not saying you are but, it does sound like there's a lot of work here.
Installing two toilets, fixing the sink, you don't say what's wrong with it. The shower head and, you don't say whether it needs replacing or not. And, the handle. And you mention the pipes and, there as much as thirty years old. and may need replacing. Also, yes, a mobile home is a factor rate, they have a different space rate for the pipes and even the rating for the pipes. I have run into problems in mobile homes that I haven't in other homes and tend to stay away from mobiles for this reason.
Your only giving a round about figure and not exact, so I'd say without seeing the job, I don't think I'd want it. These others that want to jump at it, let them. You may be sorry. I think that plumber is giving you a good price.

This does sound high. I would buy the parts I need, and then put an ad in Craigslist for a plumbers helper or someone like that to do it. Set a firm price and then see what kind of bites you get. You will probably get a plumber who works for someone else to come do it on the side for the price you are willing to pay. Just a suggestion :). Are you sure the toilets need to be replaced? Maybe they can be rebuilt. Sometimes that and a new seat could cost you as little as $40 each.

I agree with cowboy ^. Being that it's a mobil home may be a factor. The pipe, usually plastic tubing may be difficult to access. It's a real pain crawling around under there.
You may be able to get a quality Handi- man that lives in the mobil park, if it's in a park, to do the job for a little less and he would be familiar with mobil homes. If the price you gave includes material, sounds like a fair price to me. Around here a plumbing company gets about $100 per hour. Good luck!

I own a handyman business and I'd charge about half of that. Check and see if you can find a reputable handyman in your area. Make sure they are insured and ,if applicable in your area, licensed. I'd try to get someone that has had a handyman do work for them before to recommend someone. And make sure you get proof of insurance, they should carry a copy of a certificate of insurance. Don't be afraid to call the insurance company and make sure they are still covered. It is possible to just replace the parts in a toilet as well, but sometimes that takes longer than just replacing the toilet.

Check toilet prices at Lowes, changing a toilet isn't that hard.
I can even do it! I'm not sure what the going rate is for a plumber in your area, but I would definately get a second estimate. That sounds high, but it depends on how much work he will have to do with the plumbing and what all needs replaced, it always pays to get a second eistimate, check with places that sell mobil homes they usually have repair and plumbing crews.

Depends on the plumbing behind the sink. I replaced a drop-in sink and cabinet with a pedestal and had to move the drain and water supply pipes. Problem I have with HD or other stores doing the work is you are paying them to hire someone else to do the work. A handyman could probably handle it if he has any plumbing knowledge. I could do the job in less than two hours if I didn't need to move the pipe too much.
