Algae needs two things to grow in your tank, nutrients from the water and light. As others have said, keep the lights on only for about 8-10 hours a day and prevent sunlight from shining directly on the tank. This in addition to water changes and gravel cleanings will curb the algae in no time at all.

Algae can be scraped off the side with a magnet scraper. To prevent algae, try to control how much light is getting to the aquarium. Direct sunlight will grow lots of algae.

Otocinclus - Known as "otos" they remain small and do not attract much attention to themselves. They are also algae-eating machines! I have three of them and they do very good job.But like MM sad keeping light off will reduce algae growth

Algae multiply fast with light and sunlight. Algae needs light to make their own food- photosynthesis. To control it, you have to keep lights out for them and they will die. It is also good to get a filter for your fish tank to disrupt their growth.
