I would suggest using what the manufacturer recommends. If you don't want to put in the right gas, then don't buy the high performance engine. The lower octane gas will most likely not do any damage in the short term but as you said performance will degrade and the cars computer will have to cut the timing back to prevent detonation in the cylinders. good luck.

I have heard from many people that regular gas is just as good for cars. My husband used plus gas in his car because the engine was running rough. Then, after he had a full tune up, he switched back to regular and the car runs fine.

you can actually do damage over time if the engine requires a minimim octaine rating if the engine runs on reg and you run the spendy stuff your just wasteing money and probably getting worse gas milage i could go into cooler/longer burn to faster/hotter burn but it would take to long just go with the owners manuel youll be ok (how many people actualy read those things???)
