if your kid is 5 this year, they were born in 2002

that is to say: 2007 (is this year) subtract 5 = 2002

How old were YOU when you had the kid ... well, that's 32-5

You sound a little young to be going and having kids ;-)

there are a couple of possible answers I can think of. (these are just examples, you must sub in whatever actual info you have)

If you are given the "current" year (or if you are supposed to use this one) just subtract 5 (2007 - 5 = 2002 or 1999-5 = 1994).

If you are given the year of your birth (or if you are supposed to use your actual year of birth) add 32 and then subtract 5 (1970+ 32= 2002 - 5 = 1997 or 1995 +32= 2027 -5 = 2022)
