What's a code hero?

Santiago in The Old Man and the Sea epitomises Hemingway's ideal of the "code hero"

Well, it could use a little revision, I'd say. How about

"In "The Old Man and the Sea", the main character, Santiago, displays those qualities of strength, endurance and grace under pressure that make him the epitome of the Hemingway "code hero."

The grammar is fine... Keep it simple n crisp...

Of all Hemingway's stories,The Old Man and the Sea is the one that really epitomizes his code hero.

Thats what I'd prefer cause using the word 'story' twice could better be avoided.

True story..fishing by the river T...., on the worm..never had a seatrout in my life..suddenly this bar of silver takes and is leaping and plunging out of the water.. Meanwhile a lurking heron seeing the distressed fish pounces and chases it as I'm hauling it in. I start shouting and throwing stones to fend off the bird.. a crowd gathers alternately booing, jeering and shouting encouragement. Land the fish..pats on the back..'well done son!' ..'that was like a combination of the old man and the sea, moby dick and the rhyme of the ancient mariner' Park ranger comes along an' confiscates fish..no permit..fishing with illegal bait..trudge home..rod on my back like a cross now..defeated by the forces of Parkness..resurrected in spirit.
