Test your tap water. chances are there is a high level of nitrates and phosphates and silicas in the water which is FEEDING your algae.

Algaebloom is common in tanks and there are a few things you can do to help.

If your water is totally green, shut down your filters and pumps for 1/2 hour and allow the bloom to settle. Using your scrapers and vac scrape the sides of your tank to free the algae from there. Vac the algae from the rocks allong with the other debris.

Clean or change your filter media and clean the filter well.

replace your tanks water. Lower the water temp by a few degrees and turn your lights out or lessen the amount of time the lights are on.

Be sure when feeding your fish you are not over feeding.

Phosporate pads added to the filter media will also help with the algae. This will not work overnight but is a good long term cure.

Probably the water change stirred up additional nutrients from the gravel and fed the green water even more. Do another water change of about 50% while cleaning the gravel well. Keep the lighting down to about 8-10 hours a day and be sure to prevent any sunlight from hitting the tank. Cut back on your feeding for a few days and then do another 25% water change and clean the filter. You should see the green water getting much better in a few days and clear up well within 2 weeks.

Please avoid using any type of algae killing or water clearing chemicals. They are simply not worth the money and not worth the damage they do to the tank in the long run.

well if it is that bad there is a drastic measure if you dont have a an algae eating fish, and V.IMP.dont have live plants

1) dont use chemicals to remove it , they might kill the beneficial bacteria too and make it even worse,

2) from a personal experience exactly like this all i did is, when i woke up in the morning i didn't turn on the lights but covered the tank from any exterior light, algae needs light to live so removed the lights for about 24 hours will reduce it or in my case completely gone, dont worry about the fish they wont be stressed and dont feed them for the 24 hour period it wont do any harm, next day you can do things back to normal and the day after you can do a 25% water change to remove the remaining algae, even better if you scrape the inner parts of the glass with an aquarium brush so it drops to the bottom about an hour before, btw dont peek in the aquarium or you will loose everything.

better to get an algae eater to prevent it from happening again.

When the water is dark green, it means that algae are growing all over your tank. When you change water, you actually remove that algae from the attachment from the walls of the fish tank. Hence it get's dirtier. It's best that you get a filter for your tank if you don't have one.

alga are green plant so, they carries on the same processes all green plants do. light is the energy source that fuels the plant. the fish waste nourishes the alga and they multiply very fast and produce excess CO2.the combination of over population of alga and excess CO2causes the tank to get dirty .you should not wait for your tank to get dirty before you change out some of the water.over feeding your fish can make the tank to get dirty also.

do no longer DO 100% variations no remember what. that's bacteria starter or supplment, it does no longer CYCLE YOUR TANK immediately. It incorporates stay bacteria, it would not basically *boom cycle*. you ought to operate it on the first, seventh, and 14th day of cycling... draining each and every of the water would damage it, so that you by no ability would have had your tank cycled. And what do you advise "the thanks to make a 100% water change?" you purely empty the water, done...
