Darlin, the NBA doesn't care how nice you are or how much you want it. Give them what they want, and you will make it. Humor us old folks and have a fallback, ok?

Well chances are very very very slim... It's not really about deserving it. I'm sure a lot of people think they "deserve" to be a professional athlete. You have to practice and get really good. Here's a suggestion. Maybe you can grow up to be a basketball coach. referee, trainer. There are lots of jobs that can put you around basketball. Just think to be drafted and to play NBA you got to be really good. You have to be like the top 200 high recruit to go to a decent college to basketball.( Just an estimate) Then you have to be the best player one your team or 2nd best. To really even get the chance of getting drafted at all you would have to be a top 80 in your draft class. Pretty much everyone wanted to be a professional athlete at sometime in their life. A lot of basketball players are kinda born into it. I hear all the time about college basketball players and how they are the son of so and so who played an amount of years in the NBA . Just practice and do your best, and don't get too upset if you don't succeed.
Good Luck

work hard, practice every day, and go to college. Pursue your dream, but realize that if you end up not making it into the NBA, basketball can still be a big part of your life and make you happy. Give it everything you've got for now and just see what happens.

Make sure you practice everyday. My advice is to do your best and follow your dream. Make sure you can compete at the college level so that way the NBA scouts could say WOW have you seen this guy before?
