Fire - allowed us to cook foods that we couldn't easily eat raw. Gave us warmth and allowed us to survive the winter in greater numbers. Even today we need fire to work with steel, cook and dispose of rubbish.

The hand axe or adze - allowed us to cut, to use as a weapon to hunt with. It was the ancestor of every tool we use today.

Clothes - gave us the ability to live in colder environments and later to act as protective layers against animals and nature - shoes for instance.

The House - allowed us to move out of the forest and the cave to live where we wanted.

The wheel - greatly aided transport and allowed trade between far away peoples more easier as well as transporting building materials from a long distance.

The boat - same reasons as the wheel, also allowed travel to far off islands and fishing the sea.

Agriculture - ability to produce large quantities of food and remain in the same place - no civilisation without it.

Domestication of animals - wolves developed into dogs to protect farms from other wild animals and to hunt with. Cats to catch rats and mice thereby protecting food stores. Poultry to provide a ready source of eggs and meat. Cattle for food, milk, leather and pulling carts and ploughs.

The plough, makes agriculture easier and allows areas with harder ground to be cultivated.

Modern inventions with major effect will be to do with vaccinations, improved communications via satellite, cellphone, internet. Robotics has played a big part so far in industry such as the robotics used in making cars and computers, and will play an even bigger role in the future.
Also nuclear technology - used as a weapon, to provide energy, to fight cancer.
Electricity, air travel, telephone, lighting, rocket ships etc

the printing press, without it, our technologies wouldn't evolve as fast as it would've been. for example, back in the days, only royal or rich ppl were the only ppl that could afford the material to study, write, and read. So, i think the invention of the printing press has a tremendous impact toward our civilization, because the low cost of publishing mathematic to literature ideas.

life support machines- sometimes they are used for good other times it seems they are an evil thing which forces "life" on beings that are for all genuine purposes already dead and prolongs the inevitable end to their suffering and sorrow.and next would be- abortions at the other end of the life cycle which robs life from those too weak and defenseless to stop it.why because it is not convenient or the child is retarded or imperfect often because the babys so called mother did drink a lot and do drugs that ruined the child or because of a total lack of morals has no idea really who the dad is because she has sex with any and everyone.its sickening!

There is no such thing as an invention. Everything that will ever be already exists...it just needs to be discovered.
