I am a pure african boy born and raised now living in the uk. And i feel realy much that people tend to often get things twisted about being black and being an illetrated african american. I am not being racist but here is my remarks
It is either that all african americans are not sure of who they are so they accept and embrase wat they are labled as and make it who they are. Example being black is not speaking ebonics . Being black is speaking in one language love.
Being black is having ur hair braded or as an unkept afro
Being black is refering to everyone as brother or sister.
I am from Nigeria and when i stayed there the way people spoke down on the african american race will make your realise that they dont illuminate being black but being the racialy confused ignorant people they label them as.
Wearing A gold chain with baggy jeans and a durag is not black but is being a Hoodlum. the sad one is they the first to be racist and the first to accuse u of being racist

Thanks for all of your answers except for that internet KKK Racist ******.

I have now realised that there is more about the african american people. And i have now realised that you people are just people who have been robbed off from ut culture so u try hard to improvise and make ur own. Even if it means sometimes connecting back to your roots. And as for the stereotypes every single race , culture , community and country has one.

Thank you again for your response . I admit i was a little bit ignorant about everything anf when you dont have a clue about something you form a theory about it. A complete example is the racist ****** that goes by the name of cracker

One Luv

I think the perception of white Americans (and ppl of other races) of blk Americans mainly comes from the media. It is not fair to make generalizations about how all African Americans are confused about their racial identity. In my family, we take pride in who we are and our history as a family. We do not define our "blackness" by the way we wear our hair, how we speak, but how we live our lives (how we treat ppl and what we accomplish). If you must label us blk Americans as confused, let me remind you that our national/ethnic identity was stripped from us. As a native Nigerian, I would think that you can speak your native tongue and are well established in your country's culture. Well, unfortunately me and countless others do not have the privilege. So, as blk Americans we have made our own culture (that includes Ebonics, which acts almost like a second language). Speaking Ebonics allows most blk ppl to feel connected to other blk ppl. Some ppl, like myself, are educated and can speak proper English, however in the presence of blk family and friends we choose to speak Ebonics.

Anyway. Some of your points are valid. There are many problems within the blk community that desperately need to be solved. Our mentality about life (i.e. education & family) needs to change. However, we do not need just criticism, but help. If you are our brother and want change you should be willing not to just cast judgement, but also use your abilities to help others.

"It is either that all african americans are not sure of who they are so they accept and embrase wat they are labled as and make it who they are. Example being black is not speaking ebonics . Being black is speaking in one language love."

That is true that SOME African American are not sure and have embraced stereotypes. You shouldn't comment on someone accusing another of racism. You are saying that African Americans are this. Why do you not consider that RACists?

You are judging a whole people by a few (or maybe the only ones you know). That is racism, judging one by their race. How do you not see your comments as racist?

There is no such thing as acting black. You are supposed to be who YOU are. There is no black thing, white thing, asian thing, people should not act like races, but like themselves.

If I said, Nigerians are racist. Would you think that was prejudice? You yourself said they talk down about us. So that makes you racist because you are Nigerian, right? If being Nigerian doesn't make you racist, you may want to rethink how you phrase your comments because people listen to actions over words and your actions don't equate to a form of non-racism. Words for the wise.

i think any one calling another group illiterate should be extra careful not to sound ignorant themselves, your rampant misspelled words completely remove any credit to your own intelligence and your point.
you categorize all african americans very harshly but you do not even live in america so you have no first hand experience whatsoever.

i agree with the person above me who said you are looking for someone to feel superior to. i hope you are not an indication of how most nigerians think, because if you are, that is a sad, sad ignorance that your people should not be proud of.

i see now that your comments are largely unthought-out & rash, you are just generally speaking on things you know nothing about. You are an example of how black people are stereo-typed across the world into one negative image -that does not even remotely represent the majority of us. You do not even know an african american yet you judge all of us? You should be ashamed of yourself and right now you are broadcasting your ignorance for everyone to see. I hope one day you grow up. the offer to im me is taken back.

I consider courting intelligent the older we get the extra doubt we've got of the opposite man or woman being who they mentioned they're. And a few individuals, ladies intelligent, are so robust and unbiased its sickening. I imply its something to be unbiased however its a complete nother factor to be to the factor in which you're offensive. Turning matters which are practical into tremendous arguments. And ladies can thumb me down all they wish. They have visible different ladies do it to their man peers. Some ladies will also be excessive and irrational. Then a few simply undeniable out impolite. If you're so being robust that it's taking out from the mans activity within the courting of him being robust too, then probably they will have to take it down a notch. Love is approximately compromise. All this "he has to love me the way in which i'm and im no longer going to difference angle" does not pass good in relationships.

first of all listening and believing in these stereotypes makes you just as guilty as them.
my son is black/white and people stereotype him. people thought his mom was a nasty uneducated woman and his father was a thug. go figure.
we as a family proofed them wrong. we live in a 99% white community. my son is a star football player and has a 3.0 gpa. his father has a high school education and works his butt off. and no he does not sell or do drugs and no he does not drink. i am a developmental specialist in a school for disabled children. we attend every game and every school function. we have an extremely good relationship with the school, law, and community.
i believe if you try hard enough you can change peoples minds. but unfortunently their is the music industry. who do you see wearing the gold chains, baggy jeans, and durags? you guessed it alot of the blacks.
lets not forget about the media. how often do you see the good things these black musicians are doing? very seldom.
so again i tell you proove to these people that judge you that they are wrong. educate yourself.

Generally Black American culture is different from many African cultures. However I don't think it's right to stereotype all African-Americans as being on way or Africans. Black is a skin color not a personality or character trait.

well african americans were stripped of their language & all aspects of our culture & taught to hate it.

& those of us who have progressed past that ignorance & try to embrace our african heritage & culture, there are some africans who will confronts us & say, "hey you are not african, you are african american".

so what exactly is the right choice? as far as the stereotypes nigerians are stilled looked down upon far worse than african americans, so how can YOU buy into the stereotypes?

you are generalizing..you are stereotyping..you have no clue of what you speak..some people are like you say, but to conclude that the majority is that way is ignorant..you need to know facts before you feed into stereotypes..if you want to feel SUPERIOR to african americans, be my guest..see where it gets you in real life..good luck..keep a closed mind and blind eyes..!!!
