I had a fish tank that is 3ft long and 16" wide, until I broke it. I have been to all of my local pet shops and nobody has this size tank. It must be this size to fit on the stand I have for it. If anybody knows of a website that I can find this size tank please let me know.

Depending on how many sides are broken you might do best having a glass shop cut replacement sides for you and just replacing the broken pieces. Using the frame as a guide and pure silicon sealant it's not a difficult job at all.

Since it seems that size tank is out of production here are some options:

You can check craigslist.org for one second hand, there are always good deals on there. Thats where I bought my 75 gal tank. You may decide to go with a different size since the prices are so good on there.

Another option is to try to repair the tank, just buy some 100% silicone (ensure its non-toxic) sealant from home depot/lowes and then goop it on wherever the leaks are and test it out once it dries. If it doesn't work a tube of sealant is only 5 bucks i think so you aren't out alot of money. There is also Aquarium specific sealant that you can get at fish shops and the internet, but these cost more and are the same as the stuff at home depot

Another option is to have a bezier (glass shop) custom cut you some pieces of glass the same dimensions (and sheet thickness) of you old tank and build yourself one using similar technique as described above (more detailed instructions in link below). And if you have the trim from the old tank you can use it, otherwise you will have to put plywood on the part where the tank sits and then put a piece of stryrofoam on that underneath the tank so that it doesn't break.

One final option may be to go with the 36"x12"x17" called a 30gal Long and just let the extra 4" on the stand stay empty.

A 36 x 16 wide is a 40 gallon tank, which is a non-standard size these days. You likely have to mail order it if your local pet shops can't order it. Be sure to ask for exact dimensions before ordering as there are different measurements for 40 gallons. (they can also be 36 x 12 for instance).

Empty fish tanks aren't that expensive to ship, but they typically have to go freight due to bulk. If money is an issue, buy a new tank and stand locally and sell your stand on Ebay.

You'll be hard pressed to find one. The standard sizes for all manufacturers is 36" X 12" (for a 33 gallon) or 36" X 18" for a 60 gallon. A long time ago Hagen made a tank that was 36" X 16". I know because I had one. And a stand. After the tank started leaking, I couldn't find one either.

You could have one custom made. but the only way you'll find another 36" X 16" tank is at yard sales or used. They aren't made to those dimensions anymore.

For a tank that size you would pay more than the cost of a new stand for a new tank in freight charges - it would cost you over $100 just for shipping. See if your local stores will order it for you. Petsmart will.

A 30g or 40g breeder tank is 36"x18". I don't know of a regular tank that is 16" front to back. Glasscages.com builds custom tanks and you can pick them up at various trade shows they do.
