any suggestions (if i shuldnt get a chincilla) of small animals(preferably rodents) that can fit in a 25 gallon tank)

This depends on your cat and how youintroduce them.
I ahve had cats with chinchillas, rats,ahmsters and birds as well as dogs. tehy all got along fine.
But then again some won't. can't answer without kowing the cat.

NO they are crafty at getting out of the cage - my sister had to padlock hers, and she had a friend watching it while she was out of town for a weekend who had cats and didn't remember the padlock. She no longer has the chinchilla.
