That the McCanns atitude that they did not trust strangers (referring to babysitters and other child supervision) has led to the abduction of their daughter? Meaning if they had trusted the Portuguese their daughter would still be with them?

I don't think it is a self fulfilling prophecy but I do think that if the McCann's had trusted a babysitter or the drop in creche (if mistrust is indeed the reason they didn't use those facilities) then Maddy would more than likely be safe at home with her brother and sister where her parents would probably continue to take risks with their safety until something (maybe not as monumental as a kidnapping) happened to wake them up.

These people are really the most disingenuous people that I have ever come across:

1) They choose a child friendly resort, one which they evidently feel will be able to accommodate their family and their needs. Then, when they get there they decide that the staff are not trustworthy.

Don't you think this is something that should have better examined before they booked the trip? After all they are doctors and have the sufficient wherewithal to make extensive enquiries beforehand.

2) Conversely, the childminding staff and babysitting staff are in their opinion, questionable, yet the creche facility staff are trustworthy enough for their twins to left their for 8+ hours at a time....
THEY ARE SIMPLY CONTRADICTING THEMSELVES........

3) Now herein lies the rub... they sit in their hotel rooms one evening and "Gerry says to Kate" - "You know what I just don't trust those babysitting staff so rather than trust them.. we'll go out and leave them alone in the room by themselves".

Did it not occur to them that if they had no faith in the hotel staff that they had one of two options open to them either a) Don't go out and leave them alone or b) Pack their bags and go home!

If they did not trust that the babysitters and/or childminders at this resort would not be able to provide a sufficient standard of care, why not leave them at home with members of their extended family who are all now coming out of the woodwork..?? Why book a child friendly resort if you would not have even considered using its facilities anyway?

If they do not trust babysitters/childminders why place their remaining children in a creche which is what they are now doing?

If they do not trust babysitters/childminders why are they leaving the children behind when they travel to Rome,Madrid and Berlin this week??

These people are lacking in both logic and reason and quite frankly I am beginning to question where they obtained their medical qualifications, as they appear to be quite dense to me.

Hard question to answer i feel for the McCanns but should the children have been left alone irrespective if they checked on them i know my mum would never have left me alone even if she didn't trust babysitters. Parents in their situation will try and justify what they've done, I'm not judging them as I'd never want to be in that situation. But they will be having a terrible battle within themselves at the moment on what's happened and what they did right or wrong.

Strange because on the one hand they say they were 'a little naive' to leave their kids unattended, and on the other hand they say they don't trust the babysitters which indicates that they are far from naive, because the naive argument would have held more water if they had decided to use the babysitting service and then it turned out to be unreliable. They will be able to confess their negligence to The Pope though now.

No way. But if they didn't trust the child care in the hotel the right thing would have been to stay home or take the kids with them or find a better hotel or return home. So easy in retrospect, right? A terrible decision with a terrible outcome. Poor little Maddie.

Why are the twins spending all day in the exact same place that was deemed not good enough by the McCanns just a month ago?

If they didn`t trust the babysitters provided by the hotel then why are they using the creche as substitute parents for their twins now?!

Triptipp's answer illustrates perfectly the reasons why so many of us regard the McCanns with disbelief and cynicism.

If they distrust strangers so much why leave their kids in the kids club for hours on end every day?

Personally I would have ben anxious about leaving my kids with stragers too - which is why I'd have taken them to dinner with me.

I understand what you mean, but it's not a prophecy of any kind - self-fulfilling or self-defeating.
