How can I find out how far back a company goes in years when they conduct a background check

7 years is usually the cutoff, but it also depends on the industry. If the company has any links with governmental contracts on the state or federal level, they get every thing, credit, criminal, driving record. The only thing that does not surprise me in those instances are that they don't ask for your grandmothers' birth certificate number.

It depends on the company, most go for about 7, some that are less conserned and deal with less money go for about 5 some that have you dealing with more money or issues go back further then ten or twenty.

A background includes your whole life. Unless you did something a minor and it is a sealed record. When they run your SSN they see all you have done in your past. Your drivers license gives them all your arrest or warrants. You can not hide anything you have done once you give your consent to check.

Ask them. Of course, it points out to them that you are concerned...........eg, that there is something there.

My company does 7 years as a rule......
