There is NO ONE on the planet that truly understands how much a billion dollars is. US politicians probably have less understanding of the concept than many people. I doubt the average billionaire (there are a few, even if 'average' does not apply) really knows how much a billion dollars is.

I'm sure the politicians don't really care how much is a billion. Congress sold out the American people, a long time ago, and continue to do so.
The federal Government gets their funds from the (private) Federal Reserve banks:
When Congress decides they require more funds, the feds sell bonds to the Federal Reserve (Fed), who prints currency, using the U.S. Treasury, charging us the face value of each "dollar", plus interest, adding to the "national debt."
Your hard-earned tax "dollars" go to the Internal Revenue Service, the collection agency for the Fed, not to the federal Government.
Since the 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was not formally ratified, the Fed is actually stealing from you and me, using the thug-run IRS. Congress allowed a private outfit to control this nation's currency--if the U.S. Treasury Dept. provided our currency, under the direction of Congress (as intended, according to the U.S. Constitution), we wouldn't be paying billions in interest.

I'm sure New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg does--since he is a multi-billionaire!

You're not earning more, but the top of the top is earning more. There is huge wage disparity between the top and everybody else.
