Bush can never run for President again. He wants the USA to succeed in Iraq. He says that the consequences of failure are enormous. If that is true, then why not do anything it takes to win? Why not "go for broke"?
If so much is at stake here for the country, and if Bush's legacy is at stake, then why not put all available resources (within reason, as some resources must be saved for unplanned situations) into the Iraq War.
It is a long shot to think that adding 22,000 more troops will help. In fact, right now, things appear to be getting worse (and they were already pretty bad. So why not order 75,000 more troops? Why not hire thousands more independant contractors for security?
Shouldn't Bush just do whatever he can do within his power to get the job done?

Bush has gone for broke. The military is stretched and Congress questioned the money he previously asked for. He won’t get any dramatic increase in funding levels. He is at his limit and the American people don’t support him.

I think he's been "broke" for a while now. It's only too bad that the Democrats pussied out and took the timetables out of the Iraq bill. That action pretty much ensured that the situation in Iraq will maintain the status quo until Bush ends his term and it becomes someone else's problem.

Well if he and his administration hadn't screwed the pooch so abominably prior to the '06 midterms, he might very well be doing that right now. But the Republicans got slaughtered in those elections as a result of the Bush administration incompetence so now he's hamstrung and a lame duck.
Of course, that doesn't preclude another "terrorist incident" in the near future from restoring all the power he once enjoyed.

i do no longer hate him... yet i think of he's made many undesirable blunders... and fantastically plenty there are consistently people very familiar with politics or perhaps his own occasion and cabinet popping out asserting... "this guy is messing up plenty" this infrequently happens to this degree in politics... as an occasion: Republicans senator chuck hagel referred to as for his impeachment... a senator from a crimson state no much less... a retired marine ordinary that Bush tried to furnish the hot "conflict czar" job to mentioned the Iraq replaced into replaced into the style of mess, he would not take the job... (and that's in simple terms considered one of the retired generals that has mentioned this for the duration of the previous few years) a former Bush worker got here out and mentioned he disagreed with the way this administration is going some weeks in the past too... those are in simple terms over the final couple of months and maximum of his presdiency seems to have those self same style of comments... from people in his own occasion... and people who regularly do no longer SAY those issues a pair of president... of their positions... confident... according to hazard one or 2... here or there over 4 or 8 years... yet consistently? there is way, way, way too plenty smoke for there to no longer be hearth... i do no longer even understand how absolutely everyone can no longer see it? it particularly is very nearly staggering

No the cost to the rest of us is far too high, see it's plain and simple HE'S WRONG so "going for broke" would be like holding deuces while seeing a pair of ace's on the board, it's a fool's bet, we need to demilitarize this as much as possible, they aren't a standing army and you sure as heck can't fight them like one, that is the fatal flaw in this flight of fancy, better intelligence gathering is where our money should have been placed, disrupting cells of terrorists with either regular prosecution like we're doing stateside or with special forces strikes when overseas unless there is a co-operative Government where the terrorists are located, less costly more effective and reduces the ability for terrorists to recruit by lowering our profile and getting ourselves out of places where our presence helps fuel the thoughts of Jihad

You are sadly mistaken if you think he will abdicate the throne. He will declare Martial Law before the elections. He is already laying the groundwork in the media. Recall the recent speech where he said that OBL was planning another attack on the US.
