The people who answered Sizemore and Joe Mauer???? How old are you, 8??? They are good, but the best of a generation? Their generation is just starting, so you can't really pick a best of that generation. And if you were, it would be Pujols and not Mauer or Sizemore!
A generation is usually 20 years, and the best player of the past 20 years is probably Clemens...now he is a guy that I wish would just go away. I lost a lot of respect for him after they made that huge deal about his retirement and then he came back, and came back, and came back again. Maybe I'm just jealous that I can't make $28million to work from June to early October (sorry Yankee fans, he's only pitching until the first week in October...then he gets to go golfing with the rest of the Yankees!)

Barry Bonds going purely on stats. One of only 7 men in the 300-300 club (Homer-Stolen bases) Only in the 400-400 and 500-500. In my opinion A-Rod and Rickey Henderson should be the only two arguments against this.
I put Bonds in the top 5 all time with Ruth, Mays, Aaron, King Kelly.

Depends....how old are you?
I'm almost 30.
I think best player in my Generation was Barry Bonds...up until 1998. That's when I'm pretty sure he started shooting up.
And I wish he would just go away now. No records. No hoopla. Nothing.
Otherwise.....
Maybe Rickey Henderson. The man simply changed the game when he was on.

When I think about 'our generation' I think more about the players who are in their prime (debatable). Many players previously mentioned are somewhat washed up, if playing at all. These players I see continuing on in their greatness for years to come. Not in any particular order: David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter. For pitchers, I would have Mariano Rivera (although slightly past his prime), Johan Santana, Roy Oswalt (surprised? look at his career stats their amazing). If I had to pick one for each position, it has to be Pujols and Santana, both are in their prime and absolutley dominating their leagues.

Position player: Bonds, followed by Alex Rodriguez. These guys are in leagues of their own.
Pitcher: Clemens. Utterly one-of-a-kind. Even among contemporaries like Maddux, Johnson, and Glavine, Rocket stands tallest. If he comes back in 2008 and 2009 -- and I think he could if he wants to -- we just may witness a 400-game winner in our lifetimes. That's a scary-good thought. He COULD do it.

Roger Clemens. 348 career wins, 3.10 career ERA, 4604 career strikeouts. One of the most dominant right-handers of all-time, and one of the most adaptive. He went from being a flamethrower to a more polished pitcher, adding the splitter to his repertoire and harnessing a great change-up to match his now declining fastball. Never again will there be a Roger.

His stats are -

Plus he has played with the same team the whole time which shows alot about him but he has also hurt his stats because it is Houston...

OMG, all great guesses if you ask me, but how come no one has even mentioned albert puljos (i think i spelled that right), if this guy continues to put up consistent numbers throughout his career he might re write the record books alone and barry bonds et al will long be forgotten.
FINAL ANSWER: BIG AL
runner up: A-ROD

Pujols and A-Rod are the best batters, and Johan Santana and John Smoltz are the best pitchers no question. I took the best players from each league. A-Rod will probably be the best ever, while Pujols will come close. Santana and Smoltz are hall-of-famers
