The GT is rated at 300Hp with a 4.6 litter engine. The Shelby is called the GT500 which is a flash back to the late 60's. This car is rated at 480Hp with a supercharged 5.4 Litter motor. Since the early 90's there has always been a Cobra version of the Mustang. More power better handling etc. The last year of the Cobra Mustangs was 2004. Ford dropped the Cobra name on the Mustangs since Carol Shelby is now working with Ford again just like in the late 60's and those Shelby Mustangs always had that Cobra emblem as well.

The original shelby cobra, ladder tube frame, body all aluminum, 289 cubic inch engine or a 427 cubic inch. The body panel were attached to the frame with pop rivets. A replica has a fiberglass body, uses all sizes of engines, uses a Jaguar rear end. Nothing is the same, except the look, and the cost. The 427 shelby cobra could go from dead stop to 100 MPH and back to stop in 13 seconds. The orgininal cobra was built from an A C Bristol.

well almost anybody can go out and buy a replica cobra and build it and race it and enjoy it... meanwhile there are only 50 original 427 cobras in the world to start with...
not so much difference these days since Shelby american started building a "continuation" series of fiberglass and aluminum turn key cars.
besides if I owned a real one I would be afraid to take it into traffic, meanwhile I get to race a replica in SCCA events and road courses all over the country.

My brother has an original 1966 Ford Shelby Mustang and it will run circles around the replicas. Unless, of course the circles aren't too tight! LOL
I should also add, Shelby designed the car, he did not build any except for a few specials.
.
Supposedly Shelby built a mustang for Steve McQueen, has anyone seen proof of this?

im not much for glass cars...the fitment and quality of materials used is terrible...i know they may look the same to the common eye but one is just a replica...my opinion is fake cars are like fake breasts they are fun at first but the're still not real!
