Gracie Howard strolled down the hallway of St. Elsewhere the Archangel Elementary School and stopped at the door to room 222, the Principle's Office. She had been sent by her teacher to see Father Sullivan because of her insolent attitude during Catholic Studies class. Gracie had been raised by liberal parents, and she had grown to become an independent thinker. This was not considered a desirable trait at St. Elsewhere, especially in Catholic Studies. She smoothed her plaid skirt, opened the door, and told the receptionist that Miss Stucky sent her to see Father Sullivan. The receptionist led Gracie into the Principle's Office. "Well, if it isn't my favorite Martian!" exclaimed Sullivan. "When are you going to join the rest of us in this world?" Father was too used to seeing Grace in his office for just this kind of behavior. Gracie didn't act contrite like most 7th graders who are sent to see the head of the school. She held her head high and in a clear, unwaivering voice told Father that Miss Stucky had gotten angry at her for questioning immaculate conception in class. "See here, my dear," said Sullivan," father knows best. I admire your inquiring mind, and faith is so much stronger when it's subjected to healthy inquiry than when it's just accepted without question." "But, Father," Gracie objected, "that's exactly what I was doing. Why am I in trouble for doing exactly what you say?" "Well, Grace, because life is sort of like a game of chess," said Sullivan. "Every move can't be designed to result in checkmate. You have to maneuver. Every move can't be the winner. All moves but one are designed to set up the win. You've got to learn to get along with people, and work the game." Father Sullivan told Grace that she had detention for the next week. That meant that Grace would have to stay an hour after school each day with the other untouchables and assist teachers in cleaning rooms and preparing materials for the next day. It was the last week of school, and Grace was going to miss her friends' company after school, and was not looking forward to telling her parents that their schedules were going to be fouled up, picking her up late each day.

On the Corner of St. Elsewhere and Main st. there is a hotel, We made love in Room 222. She was in to chess and periodicly screamed Checkmate. We where the Untouchables of this world for that hour an a half. I went home and watched Father Knows Best, she went back to her home planet, she may have been from Pluto but she was My favorite Martian.

Last week, My favorite Martian came to Room 222 to be near the untouchables. I always knew that Father knows Best, especially when he said that I should always send others to St. Elsewhere if this should ever happen. When I let dear old dad know what had happened and how I handled it, all he could say was....Checkmate!

LOL...That was fun!

People say they were The Untouchables, they can get away with everything - even murder; but father knows best: "one day, they will find their match".

And so, the day came.

One night, while they were playing chess In St. Elsewhere, a seedy hotel in New York, the door to the Room 222 where the Untochables were staying banged open - and in came my favorite Martian - E.T. With a cigar in his left hand and a machine gun in his right hand, he pointed the gun at them and said: "checkmate."

The blood spilled on the floor....Justice was served.

Opening scene: Vicinity of Paris, early 1900's

Duncan tilted the book closer to the gas light, trying to make out its title. As an immortal, he had plenty of reading time and liked searching out his favorite books. "Un Habitant de la Planète Mars". Wonderful! he thought. (5) My FAVORITE Martian story of all time! His newly found text in hand, he strode across the street, headed for (1) Room 222 in the hotel on the corner, where he was to meet with his "Secrète Père".

At over 6 ft. tall, he was a striking man. Many heads turned to watch as he strode by. Duncan did not like calling attention to himself like this, but had found it almost impossible to avoid, since he was considered by many to be so good looking. Well, it was better than in the older, more superstitious cultures, where some of his escapades had gotten him labeled as one of (6) The untouchables!

As he turned into the hotel lobby, a stranger bumped his arm, trod on his foot in deliberate boorishness, then drew back and swore at him mightly. Duncan shrugged aside his cloak, reaching for his katana, to defend himself against the raging insults. Suddenly, he felt a timid hand restraining his arm and he looked down into the calm eyes of his "Secrète Père". The quiet man shook his head sadly. "My son, here, you must act like a (3) saint; elsewhere, you can let your anger go if you must."

Duncan laughed at himself ruefully, thinking of the mistake he had almost made. "Of course, (4) Father knows best. And now, my "Secrète Père", shall we adjourn to my room? Perhaps a quick game of chess? After all, you DO owe me a fair rematch after that LAST (2) Checkmate, don't you think?"
