I am doing a debate in school on uniforms. I have two questions. [One], can you name some pros and cons on the subject? and [two] when debating, what is the best way to present your case? (a.k.a. like first state your topic sentence, then go into your introduction and first statement on the topic...?
Thanks

I must represent the "pro" side, however, I would appreciate "cons" all the same as I must know some that my opponent might think of.
Thanks.

There are many pros and cons of school uniforms

Pros- *you don't get judged by other students on what your wearing because you all look the same.
*everyone appears equal.
*you can save money (yes, actually it cost more to buy an excess of regular clothes rather than a few of the same uniforms.)
*kids can focus more on their schoolwork rather than what they plan to wear the next day, ect.
*no one can dress in an inappropriate manner
Cons- *some uniforms can be quite pricey.
*you can't express individuality because everyone is the same.
When debating, I think it is best to present a topic sentence that entices your listeners and wants them to listen to your debate. Then, you should present whichever thing you are for, pro or con or even both. Finally, you should make a good argument and have a nice closing sentence.

Several HUGE arguments in FAVOR of school uniforms are as follows:
1) Students won't be beaten up and robbed for their expensive clothes
2) It cuts down on gang insignias, "sexy" clothing, and just sloppy/inappropriate clothing
3) Uniformity means that the poorer kids don't "feel badly" about going to school with the richer kids.
An argumetn you will HAVE to watch out for in the "against" is the COST of uniforms financially to families barely making it.

First, you have to take a stand yourself. Without knowing how old you are, it's hard to say what you should do.
I have 3 kids, and they all would have been against it, but, as a mom, I would have been for it. It's financially better, once the initial investment is made. And I'm sure schools would have financial assistance for those who can't afford it. There would be alot less competition with the girls and their couture's. There would be less problems with the schools having to enforce 'dress code' in one way, but there would still be issues with length of skirts. Colors wouldn't be an issue anymore for gang association. So, I'd be for it, but like I said, I don'[t know how old you are!

School uniforms are good because its saves on everyday clothes. There is no peer pressure to wear the latest fashions.Students are easily recogisable when going out in public for excursions. The only drawback is that they are expensive to buy. A lot depends on whether you are arguing for or against uniforms.

Pros:
-Innapropriate wear (really think spraps, belly button shirts, topless/sleeveless shirts) would nolonger be worn
-Nobody would tease anyone else about what they're wearing
Cons:
-Some people get tired of wearing the same thing every day
to present your case, I would reccoment stating what you think is best (i.e. no uniforms because they can be expensive) and then go into details. Make sure your facts are clear.

PRO - it makes everyone the same thus lessening the gap between the rich "haves" and the poor "have nots" also it can create more school pride when wearing the school colors.

pros: it removes some of the aspect of social class (ie division between rich and poor) in school - it's simple - it makes a group very recognizable
cons: parents have to buy special clothes, it reduces the possibility of individual expression through fashion
