There were many events in the book. If you mean the climax, here's what happened:
Harry, Ron, and Hermione found out that Snape was trying to get past Fluffy, the three-headed dog who was guarding the Sorcerer's Stone. They snuck out in the middle of the night and went through the trap door that Fluffy was guarding. They went through a series of challenges:
*Devil's Snare, a plant that strangled them unless they shed light on it
*A room with a locked door and winged keys flying around, forcing them to fly around on broomsticks to find the key
*An unconcious troll (the person, assumed to be Snape, who got through before them knocked it out. It was proved earlier in the book, however, that the trio was capable of defeating a troll)
*A giant chess set, in which they had to win the game to cross the room (Ron became unconcious and was left behind here)
*A logic riddle with potions, involving one that would set you forward, one that would send you back, and assorted poisons and wines (Hermione went back while Harry went forward)
Harry ended up in a chamber with the Mirror of Erised. The person he found was not Snape, but Professor Quirrell. All along, Snape had been trying to save Harry, while Quirrell tried to get the stone. It was revealed that Quirrell was letting Lord Voldemort live in his body. Quirrell could not figure out how to get the stone from the mirror. Harry saw himself with the stone in the mirror and he suddenly had it. Voldemort told this to Quirrell, who began trying to get it from Harrry. Harry almost died, but when he touched Quirrell, Quirrell got badly burned and could no longer hurt him. Dumbledore explained to Harry later that only someone who did not want to use the stone would find it. He also tells Harry that the reason Quirrell was burned by Harry's touch was that Harry had the power of love inside of him, becuase of his mother's sacrifice.

The main event in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is Harry's discovery of his true identity, the mysery that surrounds his parents death, and his first encounter (of many) with Lord Voldemort.
However, the story does center on the Philosopher's Stone, which grants immortality to whoever drinks the elixir from it. Harry basically tries to get the stone before Voldemort can use it to come back to a real body.
I hope that helped :].

The main event that is central to the plot of Philosopher's Stone is when Harry puts together that the Philosopher's Stone is hidden in Hogwarts, that Voldemort can return to power if he obtains the stone, and that someone is actively attempting to get the stone.
The climax is when Harry goes through the obstacles to stop the one who has been after the stone, and when he gets the stone.

Those books are great! I think that what you are asking for is a one-sentence summary of the book, so here goes:
Harry Potter is new to the wizarding world, and somewhere in the back of his mind, a mystery is unfolding, one involving a predator from when he was a baby.
Ooooh, spooky.

-Harry discovers he's a wizard. form of a large 2nd, ya understand? -The troll on Halloween. some might disagree, even even though it replaced into the genuine beginning component of Harry, Ron, and Hermione's friendship. -Harry vs. Quirrel/Voldemort/Voldy/Quirreldemort/wh... height of the climax.

the series of obstacles that each teacher placed in order to protect the stone from Voldermort ( i mean he-who-must-not-be-named haha!) so.. i think it was the 3headed dog.. then the strange weed thing that didn't like light... then the flying bird-key things.... then chess.. then potions.. then mirror that only gave you what you wanted. that was the main event and it was at the end of the book.
i hope this helped! :)
