I have a mitsubishi 3000 gt, and i would like to paint it black cherry colored. im curious what it would cost to get a solid color that looks really slick. the entire car would need to be repainted. i know its hard to tell with just this information but i would just like some ballpark prices for different options. thanks alot.

If you spend less than $3000 you are getting a crappo special. I like the $500 jobs that go on sale for $250 and they don't wash the car and paint over all of the bird poop and mud so you have well preserved shiny poop and mud hanging to your vehicle. My old truck just gets painted for the sake of preserving the metal that hasn't rusted away.

A custom good paint job would entail taking the windows and rubber seals off (and replacing them if they can't be reused) and sanding every nook and cranny and then painting in a controlled environment, letting it dry for a day or two and then wet sanding it for a few more days and then replacing all of the glass and rubber seals and tail lights and head lights and logo's and racing stripes.

Most cars have a plastic coating that isn't very weather resistant but it looks good for about three weeks past the time you drive it off the new car lot. This has to be sanded off and preferably you'd want a paint job that went down to the metal and reprimed and then painted.

If you want decent and relatively cheap, $3000 is the beginning. If you want restoration perfect then you are into a $5,000 plus range. If you want "throw some paint on this thing" then you are into the $500 paint over bird poop range.

God Luck!
