If I knew where I left it, it wouldn't be lost.
If I ask where something is....They'll say "isn't it on the table" in a sarcastic voice - I feel like saying I dont know, is it? If i knew that I wouldn't be asking YOU where it is!
People will often ask the same questions over and over again, except they change the wording and expect me to know the answer if they change words around.
What questions like these have you come across? Do you ask questions like this or are you a receiver of questions like these ones.

I'm not talking about on yahoo answers why people ask these questions?! I mean in real life.

I know exactly what you are talking about and what is that all about?Somehow they become "superior",because they can once again look down their nose at you like your nuts, and like you weren't smart enough to have already looked in all those places that they have so cleverly mentioned.......,and they make the situation even worse by breathing the same air in the same vicinity as you at that particular moment....of their sudden "awareness of self righteousness" they have an "epiphany",that indeed you know nothing, and with out them ,they wonder how you would survive??

A lot of times when people forget something, they don't go sit and think and go through their actions. If you don't re-enact your movements at least in your mind, you may be running around in circles looking for something.
As frustrating as it sounds, the 'where did you leave it' (if not said in a laughing or sarcastic tone) may just be someone telling you to stop looking and think, re-enact those moments leading up to the loss.
The sarcastic stuff can come from a lot of angles, but maybe, if you are a very forgetful person, people have just given up on you.
I've been on both ends of that type of advice, and I have thought about 'why' before and tried to think what I meant when I gave such 'good' advice.
Peace

I really hate the ones like Coke or Pepsi or Do you Like my Avatar, those really get on my nerves. Questions like what you pointed out, people usually ask those for a laugh and to get funny answers, Anyway good points about this!
Cheers

i know! when people ask me,"where was the last place you put it?" i stay quiet and then say,"i dont know remember-thats why im looking for it..." i guess what theyre trying to do is ask for clues so they can help you, but the asking is just horrible because it makes you feel annoyed when youre already frustrated.
if someone loses something i just say,"think about the object really hard.visualize it in your mind. think back to when you do remember having it and start trying to move foward from there." that usually helps.

I would ask where you've looked so I didn't duplicate your search and then help you find them. But it's not sarcastic and I wouldn't ask more than twice, to ensure you heard me.

For the same reason people ask you if your okay after you just got hurt. They don't know what else to say.
